Service with St. Philip's Youth Ministry
St. Philip's Youth Ministry participates in many different service events. Our ministry helps our church, our community, and our nation. These are just a sampling of our service events during the year:
Christmas Luminaries
During Christmastime, Youth Ministry creates luminaries, sets them up, and lights them around the exterior of the church. The lights shine brightly on Christmas Eve in for all loved ones whom the luminary is donated for. Known as the "Light of the Youth" this service project is one of our favorites!
Easter Egg Hunt
On Palm Sunday, Youth Ministry sets up an Easter Egg Hunt for children of the town to enjoy. The egg hunt is even complete with a visit from the Easter Bunny himself!
30-Hour Famine
In March, Youth Ministry participates in the 30-Hour Famine, a service event where youth go without food for 30 hours so that they can raise money through sponsors for starving children in other countries. One dollar can feed a child for an entire day. Join us on Famine Sunday to help stamp-out hunger with a dollar donation and your thumbprint on our giant Famine Poster. Summer Festival of Fun
Summer is a great time for friends, fun, sun and of course our church's annual Festival! Youth Ministry provides service during the festival by volunteering in the soda booth as well as the float/smoothie booth. Come by, say hello and grab a drink!
Fight for Malaria Car Wash
In the summer, Youth Ministry runs a car wash at the church. The funds from the car wash go towards buying nets for children's beds in Africa to prevent mosquitos with the deadly malaria disease from biting them in their sleep. Over the course of 5 years, Youth Ministry has proudly been able to purchase over 300 nets for these children. For more information, visit: http://www.nothingbutnets.net/
Operation Christmas Child
Most of us are used to getting presents for Christmas. However, there are thousands of children around the world that are not able to receive any gifts during the season. Operation Christmas Child, a service project that Youth Ministry participates in in November, allows our youth group members to personally pack and wrap a shoebox of small toys and goodies to be sent to poor children throughout the globe. Letters from the youth can be written and put inside the box...and sometimes the child who received the box will write back saying "thank you". Its a simple gesture that means so much during the season of giving! For more info, visit: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/occ/
